I research all Portwood, Endicott, Logston, and Gazzaway surnames regardless of whether they are related to me. If you are more focused on a single Gasaway clan or a single line, my methods may not work well for you.

Before ancestry.com Subscription
This is my older method, for Gasaway genealogy research, that I used before paying for a subscription to ansestry.com.
Step 1: Get a grandfather's name from a Gazaway on facebook.com/
Step 2: Find living possible relatives on intellius.com.
Step 3: Look at Social Security Death Index (SSDI) for recently dead family members.
Step 4. Search Google for obituaries bassed on dates and locaations from SSDI.
Step 5. Google search based on results from obituarys.
"How To"
After ancestry.com Subscription
Step 1. Open a file in ancestry.com. Start a new entry with facebook.com Gasway member's name and his father.
Step 2. Click on "Hints", if any. If no hints, then click on 'Search" or similar buttons, and follow the leads.
Step 3. When you find something useful, click on "Add to your tree" or similar command.
I can often research and create a thirteen genetration Gassaway tree in one hour, with ancestry.com paid subscription.
