Tip 1: Use the Mnemonic Pedigree.
 
A mnenonic is defined as a memory aid.  A Mnemonic Pedigree is an aid for remembering long pedigrees. It is a short form of a First Name Pedigree. It uses the first three letters of each first name.
 
Tho-Nic is menomic for Thomas and his son Nicholas.  Nicholas's son and grandson is Joh-Nic
 
Bracket the mnenomic between dates.  The left hand bracket is the biethdate of the first person in the mnenomic.  The Right hand bracket is the birthdate of the last person in the mnenomic.  Dates can be guesses, if necessarry.

Tho-Nic Joh-Nic is pronounced "tonicjonic" or "tawnickjawnick".  Four generations is pronounced as one word.
Eight generations is pronounced as two words.
